Hyland Software has donated $1200 to fund technology improvements at both of my schools. We do not have Smart Boards in the libraries so we are currently using a Symposium to present material for group. This is a large portable cart with a built in computer and projector. It takes up a lot of classroom space. It has extension cords that create tripping hazards. The nature of the projection system makes it difficult to see things clearly from all areas in the room. Sometimes the Symposium is being used by other groups in the building and we are without any method of presenting material.
The primary goal of this gift is to provide for a large screen wall mounted LCD TV and a tablet for casting material for the group. The tablet will have the added benefit of making the technology portable throughout the room. I can stand at the back of the group to cast and students can have the opportunity to interact with the material at their seats by passing the tablet around. Any additional funds left over will be spent on adding coding activities, games, and toys to our library centers.
